When I reached 60 years of age, I decided I wanted to write out my observations and conclusions on how I see a more effective leadership framework as a help for tomorrow’s leaders. My small contribution if you like, to the future of leadership. It hasn’t been written as a commercial venture, but as a conversation for anyone interested in leading people who are maybe more educated and connected than they are. Leading people who seek to be part of an authentic and meaningful group. And most of all, for leaders who see the bigger, longer picture than their own self-importance, of which there are many good people. I hope you enjoy it and I welcome any discussion you may have about what I have written. To your future.
Richard J Haley
In a rapidly changing world, yesterday’s organisation models are often at odds with today’s expectations and culture.
This masterpiece, “Inverted Leadership”, by Richard J. Haley, offers a revolutionary perspective that urges leaders to flip the script on how organisations are built and led. He does this using a powerful yet simple metaphor of a living tree. With over 17 years of experience coaching CEOs, directors, and managers across diverse sectors, Haley distills hard-won wisdom into an accessible and compelling narrative that challenges conventional leadership structures.
This is not just another leadership book with interesting theories, thoughts or ideas. This is a concise book with a simple and distinct framework from which leaders can grow their organisations.
The foundational argument in Inverted Leadership is strikingly clear: traditional hierarchies, with their top-down control models and pyramid-like organisation charts, are no longer effective. The outdated system, designed to get the most out of people, fueled by reward and punishment (“sticks and carrots”), is ill-suited to the needs of modern employees who are globally connected, crave purpose, autonomy, and inclusion. In this insightful and timely book, Richard J. Haley invites both emerging and experienced leaders into an honest, practical, and refreshingly human conversation about what leadership should look like in today’s shifting culture.
